DIARY OF A MADMAN by N. Gogol is our next theatre production for
EDINBURGH FESTIVAL 2013
"Diary of a Madman" is considered to be one of Gogol's greatest short stories.
The tale centers on the life of a minor civil servant, copyist Poprishchin, during a repressive Russian era. A low-ranking civil servant and titular counsellor yearns to be noticed by a beautiful woman, none other than the daughter of a senior official. His diary records his gradual slide into "insanity" of love. His daily frustrations transcede into an imaginative world, that later will become the subject of thouroughly classified investigation by the state police.

What We Need & What You Get
All funds raised will be used for the costs associated with the production of the play. Even if we do a lot by ourselves, we need your support to cover some costs that cannot be ignored. We need a minimum of £8500 in order to pay for:
- rehearsal space;
- theatre rent in Edinburgh (up to 3 weeks);
- Leicester Square Theatre renting fee for 1 full weekend of preview runs (taking the audience pulse and hoping to gain a first review!);
- Set Design + Costumes;
- Equity rate salaries for professional actors;
- voice over sessions;
- insurance;
- travel & accommodations in Edinburgh for main team;
- marketing & advertising.
We've run a show in an Edinburgh Festival before, no later than 2010, and the buzz and the creative energy developed there is just incomparable with anything else. We have also opened in London at Leicester Square Theatre before, and after a good run in Edinburgh we aim to bring the show back in London for a further run.
_____________
Disclaimer: As it is illegal in the UK to work UNPAID and we work with Equity registered professional actors, we have to comply with Equity rates salaries, if it is to meet the law, but also our own imposed standards of quality. However, we would not be able to do so without your kind help and we do encourage you to give generously, so we can provide employment opportunities for professional actors and put a STOP to UNPAID artisitc work in the UK. If we won't manage to fundraise for the entire amount required to run the show for 3 weeks in Edinburgh Featival 2013, we would continue campaigning and have a shorter run in Edinburgh. However, if Edinburgh won't be possible for our project, due to the time scale and the amount of money we have to raise, DIARY OF A MADMAN will open in London at Leicester Square Theatre. Therefore, your effort as sponsors is invaluable and we would like to thank you already for your help and support!
